Chris Williams, of Yazoo City, is a free man today.
In July 2014 he was charged with the murder of Blake Kirk and jailed under a $500,000 bond.
At his preliminary hearing in August, cross-examination of the chief investigator for the Yazoo County Sheriff's Department revealed that 3 men, who had allegedly been using illegal drugs and drinking, came to Chris' house and an argument started with Chris standing on his front porch.
Chris told the men to leave and one, Kirk, charged into Chris' house and began beating Chris while Chris was sitting in a chair.
Kirk was much larger than Chris, and allegedly had a history of violence. Chris had a pistol, and after taking multiple blows from Kirk, shot him three times.
A Yazoo County grand jury refused to indict Chris for murder, and not even manslaughter. The DA's office obviously believed this was not a case they could convict on.
I am pleased with the result of this case as I defended Chris, keeping my pledge to defend for free any MS resident, U.S. citizen charged with a felony as a result of the use of a firearm in legitimate self defense.
Chris had to sit in jail for 6 months because he couldn't make a bond of any amount, but justice prevailed.
